From what I've seen, b2b lists don't ever come with source. I've seen a few files that have full contact, title, etc..but no source info. It makes sense as ceo joe isnt opting in for a free laptop. Are these lists solely for direct mail or call centers? How are people emailing these?
You're correct, B2B is never with source. (or extremely rare) This is directory data compiled and appended (at times) to get the full record. You generally get what you pay for with this data. I know guys that buy this data and mail it -- no source. And they've never had issues. Remember, source requirements on data is something the anti email marketers have drilled in, so much, that we begin to think it's a CanSpam requirement. It is not. Read CanSpam again and see if you see anything about Ip/Date/Source requirements on the data. It's mostly about forged headers, opt out links, accurate subject lines, etc... Mail it and you should be fine. And with the right offer, they tend to pull well.
I don't see any mention of such in the law. Anyone care to comment? I guess I always thought you had to have full source info for each name. Always received it anyways but I want to mail some b2b lists.
Let me ask you this: Is source itself actually defined as a URL? Meaning, so someone gathered this B2B list via a comment card drop box in a mall, why couldn't that be used as a source? Or whatever the "source" really is, is it clearly defined in CAN SPAM as a URL and as such does/would that make it against CS to mail ANY address not gathered from the interwebz?? And as far as I've ever been told or have heard, GI is mostly considered B2B as far as that goes.
So as long as you deliver properly, 500mill names from a cd with no source info is just fine as well. The ambiguity of it worries me.
I gotta give you credit for always trying to poke holes in something and look for what isn't there! That's NOT what I said. Your source being the way they were gathered, not in how you bought them. If you got your B2B list from a fuckin DVD, you're beyond my help Chappy.
Ha. I know what you're saying. I'm just posing it to the extreme to make a point. I hear ya on "the source" and Can-Spam makes no reference to url, ip, etc..anyways. Blast away I will.
I agree that there is alot of b2b in GI. I was looking at purchasing actual lists by job title. 100k CEOs, 100K COOs etc..
Yeah, I just learned this information in the last couple weeks. It was a shock to me, as well. Goes to show the strength of the anti email marketers propaganda. I've never met a CEO, COO or C-level list that had source. Mostly brokers don't sell with email, when they do, just don't expect phones to be all that great for a low price point.
Did you have that image waiting for a comment about propaganda? lol You're Johnny on the spot! Speaking of propaganda --- Get the book "How to kill 11 million people" A serious good read and a short one.
