Commtouch to Implement Return Path’s Certified Whitelist to Help ISPs and Email Security Providers Identify Wanted Messages

McLean, VA – May 28, 2013 – As part of its partnership with Return Path, the global leader in email intelligence, Commtouch (NASDAQ: CTCH), a leading provider of Internet security technology and cloud-based services, today announced that it will implement Return Path’s Certified Whitelist to help identify trusted email senders. This will help mailbox providers, ISPs, and email security vendors to improve their mailstream management and end-user experiences by making it easier to get wanted mail into the inbox, while keeping unwanted mail out.

Return Path’s Certified Whitelist is already used by more than 80 mailbox providers worldwide, covering 2.4 billion inboxes, and certifying more than 18 billion emails monthly. Commtouch’s integration of the Certified Whitelist will extend Return Path’s coverage to hundreds of millions of additional consumer and business inboxes through the network of anti-spam vendors and ISPs that rely on Commtouch’s cloud services.

Commtouch protects billions of Internet transactions on a daily basis. With six global data centers and award-winning, patented technology, Commtouch’s email, Web, and antivirus capabilities keeps more than 350 million end users worldwide safe.

“Mailbox providers face increasing pressure to manage staggering volumes of email while protecting their end-users and delivering the best possible inbox experience,” said Matt Blumberg, CEO of Return Path. “Return Path’s Certified Whitelist is helping them meet that challenge, ensuring that billions of inboxes receive messages they want and not spam, phishing scams, or malware. Commtouch’s use of the whitelist will help more providers around the world improve the email experience for hundreds of millions of customers, so we’re excited to welcome them into this network of trust.”

To gain entry into Return Path’s Certified Whitelist program, senders must pass an audit of email practices that examines permission, email infrastructure, privacy policies and disclosures, and more. Senders that fall out of compliance with program standards at any time are removed from the whitelist.

“The integration of Return Path’s Certified Whitelist via our Security Alliance framework further enhances our ability to ensure secure email communication for end-users, service providers, and email senders alike,” said Shlomi Yanai, CEO at Commtouch. ““The Commtouch Security Alliance framework enables Commtouch to leverage feeds such as Return Path’s Certified Whitelist in enabling unhindered delivery of legitimate email while containing the proliferation of spam and other abusive email.”
