You would be surprised at how many legitimate businesses end up on the weekly SBL reports. There is a solid business model opportunity there. By that I mean, plenty of big businesses interested in mailing, and the power of that medium. But they obviously have no clue how to effectively market, most are not CAN-SPAM compliant, or have decent targeted lists. It is amusing to see congressmen, and their campaigns getting SBL's during election season. :driver:
They've been getting SBLs for the better part of the past decade. And you know what? They don't give a f*** and it doesn't slow them down.
Thats because spamhaus is scared of them. They know if they pull there shit on them, and piss off the right person, spamhaus will be gone
Spamhaus does not give a shit about US law as they stated many times over. They openly scoff at any attempts to bring them to justice in any US jurisdiction. Taking down Spamhaus would require the same level of commitment as fighting Al Qaeda. Translation - not gonna happen.
I would say its quite different than fighting Al Qaeda... A well placed call by the right sitting congressmen, or that one democrat that is always promising change, could make the UK reign fury upon SH. Which is why the SBL's will probably never last longer than a few hours...
I doubt that would happen unless it really started interfering with their long term election campaign. I'd hazard a guess, most of Congress has minimal knowledge of the Haus, and their effect on internet commerce. If you managed to lite a fire under some of the commerce, and business lobbying groups, you might get some results in that regard. Keep in mind however, that not all mailers are created equal. There are some major baddies out there. That being said, any number of ISP's have said over the years that they would fight Haus, but are not going to do it for free. A number of ISP's, and their network admins, believe in U.S. commerce laws, and CAN-SPAM compliance. However, their network admins openly admit while they see some of the mail as CAN-SPAM compliant, they simply to not have the time and energy to fight back and forth with Haus, and just give in ultimately as it's faster. Same as happened with Burst, Sharktech, or any number of others who had to throw their clients to the wolves. At some point, they simply have to pick the path of least resistance as they have a business to run, and these "escalation" SBL's start effecting clean clients. However, those sorts of things are pissing off a lot of companies. It's only a matter of time before one of them actually MAKES THE TIME to fight them. You can't cite U.S. laws, and regulations all of the time, while claiming to be international and untouchable.
