What's GI What's TLD What are the differences between the two when it comes to mailing I'm barely getting into the game and want to know what i should start with.
okay so you are saying this is a GI Mailing scenario right? targeting certain people in certain niches. Maybe the payday niche. Mailers are going to want their source of traffic probably from previous payday loan borrowers. To get those types of leads they will probably buy them from payday loan sites like (paydayone.com/2apply4cash.us/etc) In the end once they have acquired a mailing list the list will consist of ordinary email addys from average joe people like ([email protected]) So what would be a TLD mailing scenario?
No, that is not what SG suggested. GI does not mean general interest. GI = General Internet. If you mail TLD this is suggesting (in terms of mailing) that you are hitting AOL, Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo. If you mail GI, you are sending to emails with domains other than those. You are simply referring to niches or demographics. GI and TLD only refer to the domains.
the main difference in mailing these comes down to resource management. TLD = long term, reputation building, IP health and warming GI = churn-n-burn Both offer fantastic revenue earning possibilities. Both come with their own unique problems. Both require constant learning.
I'll try to put this as simply as I can. Lets say you head over to namecheap and register the domain widgetes.com, and setup the email address [email protected]. That is a GI email address. Lets say that you go you yahoo.com and register the email address [email protected]. That email address is what is commonly referred to as a TLD email, even though as SuperGenii pointed out is not really correct. You will also see a Yahoo address referred to as one of, "The Big 4".
