For the past 2 weeks the internet, talk shows, and television have been buzzing about the latest scandal involving U.S. Representative Anthony Weiner, after he tweeted an explicit photo of himself and had been carrying on “inappropriate” relationships with women he’d met online, through social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook. Being that relevancy is the key in the marketing world, it was only a matter of time before Weiner jokes and puns made their way into email campaigns and promotions. Relevant content is a great way to grab your subscriber’s attention!

Take Spirit Airlines email campaign from a week ago, which capitalized on Weinergate to highlight a special summer airfare sale that was “Too Hard To Resist.”

I think these corporate email deliverability bloggers are short of ideas what to write about.

What information do you think is lacking? What would you like to see Email Service Providers writing blogs about?

OOPS, I did not realize this is your blog! Sorry did not mean to troll you!

The problem is if you want to have a blog with frequent posting schedule and target post size you are going to quickly run out of meaningful topics and have to end up with lots of filler content. Not that it is bad in itself, there could be a fan for any type of writing but IMHO this sort of thing would be more appealing to n00bs and repealing to pros who do not want to read through long essays thinking WTF and searching for a point.

That's the reason I got out of regular blogging. I do not really have much good advice other than "focus on very specific problems / solutions".

it's okay, no offense taken! ii hear you, it's an ongoing dilemma here. we have to blog (for seo & exposure) but the blog content is a hard line to walk. bottom line, most people reading these email marketing blogs are noobies. if you're an experienced marketer you're looking for blogs like these (Yahoo redirecting some to bulk while having MX issues), which we try to mix in as much as possible.

i think there are a LOT of bad blogs on email marketing and very few that are actually informative. we try to keep them informative, but different writers have different styles and i don't police their content so some posts aren't as good as others.

funny thing though, that weiner blog generated 2x much traffic in the first 2 hours as the delivery 101 blog, that also went up today, which is far more informative. it's more advanced information so it's above most email marketers heads.

Do you really believe these are email marketers vs. Joe Schmoes searching for Weiner? It is easy to get traffic targeting celebrities / current news but it usually turns out pretty useless.

i know they're real email marketers only because i based that statement on traffic from specific sources, not just general traffic to each blog.
