    The new JMAP protocol addresses shortcomings of previous open protocols connecting email clients and servers were not designed for the modern age. JMAP is the result of efforts to address shortcomings, providing a modern, efficient, easy-to-use API, built on many years of experience and field testing.

    In the 80s a coder was someone who probably knew ASM.
    In the 90s a coder knew C/C++.
    In the 00s a coder was all about sandboxed langs like C#.
    Today a coder is someone who considers editing HTML, CSS, and javascript to be "coding", and thus, JMAP is introduced so that simple 4-char SMTP commands can now be replaced with bloated "json".

    But I'm not complaining, I hope this catches on because it will just make people who actually know what they're doing that much more exclusive. :)
