This is going to cause people scrambling to set up their own mail servers to avoid those monthly charges.

But now they have to have an additional paid monthly account at Mailchimp + the Paid Mandrill Add on.

That's an extra $10 a month - minimum at the lowest paid Mailchimp account.

Every fee impacts my decisions. When you run a company, you have responsibilities to your stakeholders. If I don't weigh every decision, I'm not doing my Fiduciary Duties.

I would say it matters more for the smaller mailers. It seems from what I have been reading a lot of people with wordpress and forums were using them to send their emails. Looks like many of those users moved to amazon ses or sendgrid.

For a bulk mailers standpoint its not the cost associated with the change but the tools that Mailchimp UI uses (Omnivore) to analyze lists compare to other users lists opt-outs etc... Thats going to be the problem the content and type of mailing you were doing through bulk SMTP or Web-API will not be able to be replicated within the platform itself. Unless content and list are super clean and "look like actual opt-ins" you'll have issues
