I see so many threads in other forums of people wanting help mass emailing to scraped emails from facebook/scrapebox/whatever...

Is is illegal and these guys just dont care/know? Or is there some legal twist to it? (im talking about in the US).

ALso i've read through the canspam act and it seems like as long as you followed the rules then the only thing that would make it illegal is the scraping part, is that true? Can i just buy/rent a huge list and be safe mass emailing my offers?

Sorry that doesn't help.... I was serious, completely noob, never even looked into mailing before. Point is I have a new econmerce company and I want to try email marketing but being new i don't have a list. I've seen some people offering services to mail to their lists but I want to know if it's even legal, if they are using scraped lists? And how would I know?

On a related note where can I find someone with a safe list that will send my offers? Or can I buy/ rent a list? Is that safe?

It is legal within the US and protected under the can spam act, and illegal in the majority of the countries that have a specific law about email marketing. However it's the worst email practice possible in the industry and this forum will ban anyone who follow these kind of practices -- Spammers will mail "scrapped" data, not legitimate email marketers.

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to build a legit company with a real brand so I don't want to get involved with anything shady. What are the best ways to start email marketing if I don't already have a list?

Infousa sells lists, and they're a ligit company so my thought is that others must be as well, right? Initially I don't want to invest any servers/software myself, looking to outsource it but I'm not sure where or how to find the right solution. Thoughts?

It is *NOT* legal to harvest/scrape email addresses.... If you take legal advice from an internet forum you're an idiot.

I was under the impression that it wasn't a violation of the can spam -- maybe it violates another law?. It would be nice if you can expand on why it's illegal since I'm sure a lot will benefit from this info (me included).

Wonder which would be more expensive the lawsuit or the leads?

RE: Infousa sells lists. Yep, I ran through the umpteen page selection on B2C list.

    A 4mill B2C price quote is ONLY:

    Mailing Package
    Your Price: $170,398.94

    What a steal! ;P

Either way this is not the place to discuss it -- this is a legal, whitehat email marketing forum.
