Looks like some major overhaul (at least on the GUI end). This will be nice: New Web UI: Ability to manage multiple nodes from a single user interface Anybody get word on when to expect release?
I just got my Shiny New Version of PowerMTA 4.0! It's Awesome! The core functionality is the same with a few minor additions. The real benefit to upgrading is the reporting/management web UI. The Web UI loads onto another server that will collate data from up to 10 (even more but your server would have to handle it) PowerMTA Nodes operating at 1 Million emails/hour according to the documentation. The node/mailing server still has the basic web UI that you are used to, but the Web UI gives instant near real time delivery reports by domain, vmta, bounce category, JobID and just about every other configurable category. It really helps to be able to instantly see the graphical representations of what is being delivered through what VMTA so that you can adjust on the fly with their web based config file editor. The config file editor also allows you to pause, resume, back off and normal a queue, a really helpful feature. There really is a lot more that the new WEB UI provides that i havent had a chance to get to yet, I have just had it for a day and wanted to share. Think all of the core features of PowerMTA with all of the monitoring and quick config changes made easy. Well I am going to get back to playing with my new toy and getting these emails out to the world! Hit Rakesh up at [email protected] and he will give you a free trial.
Don't you need an extra server to run the management gui on which uses postgres? It sounds like a possible headache to me, the great thing about pmta has always been its simplcity.. I'm skeptical of the fact that you now need two servers minimum to use it and it relies on a database.
You can still use it the same way as the previous versions without the webUI. You can even load the WebUI on the same server, but the resources would compete with the mailing, so its not recommended. I have another server that I was using for the List Management piece/MySQL server, that I just installed the WebUI postgres database on. Installation was simple, about 10min, and the reporting benefits are well worth the extra 10 min worth of work. You still get all of the features of the old system, command line control, api injection, custom logs, etc... When you are putting out a Million emails per hour with one PowerMTA server, the cost of another server for instant reporting is negligible and well worth it. The near real time reporting is by far better than all of my attempts at coding a front end to analyze the data as it is mailing.
