Ola fellow mailers, I know some of you might be new to forums or mailing but I just wanted to remind you of the "repuation power" located on the top right hand corner or each user post. This is a good way to boost your online-forum-cred and while it may not mean much to some of you, it does to others. Its just a nice way of saying "hey, thanks for the awesome advice or info" As Push mentioned in a previous post, the admins take time to make sure we post the most relevenat info and it sucks when we see good posts being ignored or unread. However this goes for ALL members not just admins, so going foward if you like a post or have dealth with a fellow mailer on the forum and liked their work, then give them some props :shakehands: Having said that, I'm going to paying-it-forward now.
Thanks for pointing this out G! I have been thinking the same exact thing. It would be nice to see this feature widely used.
Ok Guys, look like the REp tool is actually working. Therefore I'm reviving this thread in the hopes that we can give props to those who deserve it.
Is this really working? My Rep always stay at 1 even though people +1 rep me... I do have 41 reputation points though.
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing... How does +rep function in terms of rep power, and what affects a user's status (Junior member, member, Senior member.)?
Rep is working fine. You guys are reading it wrong. To the far right, you will see Rep Power. This is not to be confused with your rep points. Rep Power means "how many rep points I give someone when I give them rep" So if your rep power is 10, it means if you give me rep, it's +- 10 rep points I receive. Your individual rep scores are available in your Control Panels, visualized by the # of green cubes under your name as well when posting. How do you get your rep powers UP from 1? Please see my Rep post in the Junk area where I explain all the things you have to do here: http://www.mailerforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1222
Here are the current values and what it says... I had asked for ideas to change these, nobody responded, so it hasnt changed..yet -99999 to -51 User is infamous around these parts -50 to -11 User can only hope to improve -10 to 0 User has a little shameless behaviour in the past 0-10 User needs to give more tips and lurk less 11-50 User will become famous soon enough 51-150 User has a spectacular aura about 151-250 User is a jewel in the rough 251-350 User is just really nice 351-450 User is a glorious beacon of light 451-550 User is a name known to all 551-650 User is a splendid one to behold 651-1000 User has much to be proud of 1001-1500 User has a brilliant future 1501-2000 User has a reputation beyond repute
I will be giving out a lot of rep as the system is now working, so if you posted something cool before and didnt get credit, you will now. If others can do the same for each other, would appreciate it.
If I understood correctly, the description (lurking, famous, etc.) depends on your Rep power and not Rep points. You and I still have 1 Rep power, thus the "needs to give more tips and lurk less". I don't mind the current way this thing works but I do think members +1 clicks should somehow count towards the Rep power as it's supposed to be a "reputation" system and the definition of reputation is "The general estimation in which a person is held by the public" and not "The general estimation in which a person is held by the forum admin".
I disagree, respectfully of course. If I understood it correctly, the description depends on your rep points, since your rep power can't be in the thousands... And since SG had the same exact rep points as myself, I thought I'd ask. In all honesty, it doesn't really matter to me. I'm not here to gain green bars or points, I'm here to help where I can and get help when I can. Don't take me wrong, it's great and very much appreciated when I receive rep from any of you guys, but it doesn't define me and whichever way Roundy and the admins have it set up is absolutely fine by me. :shakehands: -X
True, didn't notice that. So Rep points do count towards Rep power. Well said. I also don't really mind, just thought some Rep power would make me feel cooler
There's still some misconceptions going on here. 1. You can get rep from ANYONE. Not just me. I am not the God of the forum who administers rep alone, it's a community. 2. Rep Power has nothing to do with your Rep Score. Your Rep power tells the world how many rep points you have the power to reward. So if your rep power is 10, each time you rep someone, they gain (or lose) 10 points. 3. Your Rep Score shows from the Control Panel, and is represented by the green blocks to the far right of your posts. It's really simple, let's not overthink it!
It wasn't really obvious to me until now. Thanks for the explanation Roundabout. P.S. If you could implement a "Thanks" system I think it would motivate some people to post more tips and lurk less
I was clear on these points and understand that anyone can give rep, and rep power affects the amount of rep one can issue, and rep power doesn't have anything to do with the rep score. My question was why with 31 points, hovering over the green mark still says "User needs to give more tips and lurk less" although I have 31 rep. According to the rep system, it should say "User will become famous soon enough". Again, I'm just doing some "Quality Assurance", in case the rep points aren't affecting the status properly. -X
Just wanted to "refresh" this thread and remind members to "pay-it-forward" +rep on those posting you believe deserve a gold star (per-say)
