I'm just curious if there would be a benefit to mailers sharing their suppression list with each other in order to ensure only mailing the highest quality leads. I'm sure some idiot would try to mail the suppression list but the consequences would only hurt themselves. Granted a down side I see is someone unsubscribing from one offer, but maybe clicks on another offer from another mailer. Just curious on your thoughts....

For example I have my own built suppression list about 150k from my own mailings, and looking to run some data through Bridge which would yield about 500k +/- more records I shouldn't be mailing, if I combined my list with list from others, especially others whom have used list hygiene services I would imagine the list would be pretty damn clean.

Nope.To many tricksters out there. They would add their best data to the suppression file in hopes that nobody would mail to it.

I guess I could see someone adding their clickers list so that nobody would mail it, however on the flip side you know some idiot is going to mail suppression list so that kinda wouldn't be a good idea. Maybe even a shared list amongst a select few, instead of something public.

    Just a random thought...

I think it would be a tough sell to say the least.

I think you'll find most of the networks keep global supp files of screamers/litigators. And share them amongst each other.

Correct. Most have a master file or list, plus you can always scrub your data with IW as well just to remove crap.

Data management is one of the most important things in this business. Not only having good data, but getting rid of the bad, screamers, and so forth. You should be investing it in one way or the other, whether developing your own leads, or scrubbing out the bad assuming you're working a shared list or something.

Yeah that's the other thing. Most supression lists are like 20 gigs... best shared via USB.

Sharing initially sounds like a good idea but you are absolutely right when working with big data suppression lists it is just too large to really get your hands on. Which is why many companies tend to rely on a data verification and cleansing solution companies. There is no point in taking extra steps to build a suppression list of millions of email addresses when you can rely on another source who does adds to their suppression list on a full time basis.
