Hi Guys, Wasn't sure in what thread to post in, so it seems the "noob" section is where I belong :hahaha: I've searched the forum in and out but I'm slightly more confused now than I was before. It's the first time I'm doing doing this type of campaign where I actually have to set up a server.. I have a script that works with multiple ips, software, data to start with (I'll buy more after I set up) etc. So I'm looking to buy IP's (or a full service server) but I have no clue what the do's and don'ts are.. More than that, I don't know what I need to check before purchasing.. Also, I'm not sure if I need to just buy IPs or go with the full service.. I'd appreciate any help, maybe a place where ppl recommend trusted sellers (or trash untrusted ones). I understand no one is going to tell me their secrets, but a push in the right direction would be nice  Are there known sellers that everyone works with?? Thanks for all the help! SivLi
Being a "noob" is not an excuse for being completely ignorant and unprepared. All of the stuff you are asking could have been answered by you doing your own research - so do that. Let's clarify something here: asking for "help" when you've put forth exactly ZERO effort on your own is not asking for help. You are asking for a HANDOUT. Do your own research and post a reply to this thread answering your own questions with what you've discovered.
Sivli: Congratulation on your new venture. I am a completely a noob myself as well, it seems like don't have a clue how or where to begin. I suggest to take a look at the "The "Will I succeed at Mailing" Self Test's post. http://www.mailerforum.com/forum/sh...ed-at-Mailing-quot-Self-Test&highlight=tunnel http://www.mailerforum.com/forum/showthread.php?1304-Email-Glossary You will get a very general idea about bulk mailing. Hope this will help u. Good luck to you..........
Hi Speedy, thanks for that The IPs and mailserver section in http://www.mailerforum.com/forum/sh...ed-at-Mailing-quot-Self-Test&highlight=tunnel are helpful, but it really is the tip of the iceberg. From all the reading I did I got these steps (in a nutshell, it's actually 2 pages long) to get the campaign up: 1. purchase VPS/IPs/dedicated server 2. Create SPF record 3. Sender ID 4. rDNS 5. FBL 6. DomainKeys/DKIM 7. check/warm up IPs 8. clean lists Sounds about right? I'm sure that long the way I'll find out more (and make some mistakes), but I thought about starting with no1 on my list, which is the reason I posted this to begin with. So I am looking for more info on purchasing (not configuring) a VPS/IPs, something that is reliable enough to keep my campaigns running (if I do everything correct on my side). I'd like to be pointed in the direction of a good article, something recent if possible, of what to look at when window shopping for IPs. Make my day and point me in the direction of trusted well known companies or even forum members.. TIA, SivLi
Dear DoldGigga, I think you're a bit of a douche, but if you have the sudden urge to take your unresolved anger issues out on someone, please go right ahead. Make my day and bump my thread up to the top of the list. Best regards, SivLi
As you can see, DoldGigga did his very best to make my first reply a memorable one I think I will fit right in.
How about you start telling us what tools you are using to begin your mailing adventures. That script you claim to be using could be the ugliest piece of code ever written for all we know. Hypothetically you could have a perfect set up and a shitty injector that can mess up your system. Details are the key to helping you out.
You can think what you want but you know I'm right...and if the highlight of your day is having your handout thread bumped up then I don't want to be the one to deprive you that bit of joy.
As for a server- I like redacted. I get my servers and ip's there. I have never had problems with them. Also welcome
I'm using phplist, modified to work with multiple IPs, it's been used already so I know it's good. Until now I have only worked with my own opt-in registration forms, now that I'm all settled in that area I want to try and expand into buying opt-in lists. So I need a different server than what I use for my current lists. Now I am worried that after buying a list, cleaning it, warming the ips etc. after a couple of mailers if I'll get few complaints it'll get me thrown of the server.. So do I need a more lenient VPS.. is there a thing like that? Or am missing something?
redacted again, they are veryyy lenient. I get complaints all day, it happens. So i would definitely give them a try, you will not be disappointed.
redacted in no way supports spammers, We will terminate your account with no REFUNDS if you spam in any way, or if you go over our complaint ratio. Not sure what these two clowns are talking about
I think it's pretty obvious. MF was not set up so BHW refugees could post "Go here, they tolerate spamming!". Even the redacted ISP staffer came here to defend themselves. Please, no posting of ISPs based on "if they tolerate SPAM or not" that is not what MF is for or will tolerate.
I am not looking for a server that tolerates spam, it's just that I'm aware of it that even the cleanest list might get complaints. For starters I will use my own data, all opted in for my offer, and my complaint rate is most days less than 0.1%. But I'm sure that this will go up a bit if I start using bought lists(WH, scrubbed etc).. So the question is, what server can I work with that won't throw me out after a small amount of complaints, which, we know, can happen to everyone.
To anyone wondering why the post was edited, here are reasons. The redacted company didn't come here asking for that type of business. Making statements like that can cause these types of companies problems, that they weren't looking for. Noobs coming out and blabbing about a hosts is always a bad idea.
Yes, you are... when you purchase a list from another party, you can expect all sorts of complaints and this is what most ISPs consider spamming. Not trying to give you a hard time, just telling it like it is. While many marketers DO purchase lists, some legit, some not, either way, you go into the grey area of unknown risk... are there traps in the list? Were the unsubs properly removed as per Can Spam? etc etc and it can get ugly. Why not take your budget money for "list purchasing" and use it to pump more marketing into your legit website so you have more clean, double optin data?
Wow, where did these people come from? We need better screening / warnings / upfront policing. Maybe a sticky "Note to All Spammers" or something...
