I dont know how much tech support is improving but sales is a joke... I had a demo scheduled with them and they left me hanging. I have heard great things about them but if sales stands you up, what will tech support do to you?
I Love Volo! Listen I don't know if it's just me but I've had a perfect experience with Volo (Volomp)! Both their support and their Sales. And the platform itself doesn't involve Rocket Science!
As a legacy client its hard to justify paying $2.5k per license JUST to use their new fresh out of the box v 4.2. Though keep me posted on function ability as support was THE biggest drawback to using their system
I was talking with someone yesterday who mentioned something I found very surprising. He said that Volo does not provide any domain/IP rotation features. Like, for instance if you wanted to switch your domain out every X messages. Is that accurate?
With volo you can rotate ip/domains after every mailing or by days..1,2,3, etc...that is their breakdown.
Bubbles - Volo has an intelligent IP rotation feature built into the mail engine. It can rotate ip's and domains for each recipient you mail to. Additionally, our mail engine has a built-in backoff strategy designed to preserve your IP reputation.
Your answer is no they do not have a feature to switch out domains. You would have to put in a support ticket to have them set up all of your IP's with the new domain you want attached to hit. Their system marries the Ip to the domain. I was hoping they had added a feature like this but from all the responses it seems they have not.
I thought I should post up some additional information on ip/domain rotation and mailing in general to clear up any confusion regarding what Volo is and is not capable of. There are several methodologies when it comes to the rotation of ip's and domains when mailing. The term rotation becomes ambiguous when it's not obvious what you're trying to do. Here are a few principals that might clear up any confusion: IP/Domain rotation per recipient When you want to have the mailing engine rotate through a pool of available IP/Domain pairs to send mail from. Let's say you have a /27 bound to your server (30 usable IP Addresses) Volo Server 1: 207.199.153.192/27 This gives you the following IP space to mail from: 207.199.153.193 - 207.199.153.223 Rotating per recipient would mean the following would take place: 207.199.153.193 -> [email protected] 207.199.153.194 -> [email protected] 207.199.153.195 -> [email protected] 207.199.153.221 -> [email protected] 207.199.153.222 -> [email protected] 207.199.153.223 -> [email protected] etc. Mailing would start from your first available IP/Domain It would email [email protected] and then rotate to the next available IP address to mail [email protected]. Assuming no hold keyword was triggered by the SMTP response, your used domain/ip would go back into the pool of available domains/ips to mail from. In this scenario, each IP would have a subsequent domain attached to it. This can either be a domain.com or a subdomain.domain.com Rotation per Mailing or Drop Expanding upon the previous example. Let's assume now that we have multiple /27's assigned to our server running Volo. Volo Server 1: 207.199.153.192/27 207.199.154.192/27 This gives us a total of 60 usable IP addresses at our disposal. With each mailing you schedule up within Volo you can choose to mail from the following: A single /27 subnet at a time Both /27 subnets for the same drop A combination of various ip's from each subnet In this example we're merely rotating "ip/domain selections" for each drop to a list. Rotation of domains on the DNS Level This is probably what bluehairdave was referring to. Let's assume we we're using one domain for our /27: mailingdomain.com mailingdomain.com can either point to a single IP address in our /27, or we can utilize sub-domains to use this single domain for all 30 IP's in our /27. In either case, Volo offers full control of the DNS records (A, MX, SPF, DKIM) within the User Interface. You're free to modify and change the pointing of your forward DNS. Additionally, if you don't feel confident modifying your DNS, Volo Support staff will gladly configure your DNS for you as pointed out by bluehairdave. Other types of rotating Link/Image Masking domain rotation Message Headers Rotation and randomization Sorry for the long winded post here. I hope this clears up any questions out there. At any rate, all of the above examples are possible with Volo, and many other mail platforms for that matter. It's also worth noting that you're not limited to /27 subnets. Volo can support much larger sized blocks of IPs.
Nice job Chris, welcome to the mix. I'd rather see a detailed answer than fragments of information here or there. One of these days we need to get together and talk. :amish:
Yes thank you. That is very imformative. bubbles questions was: Can you swap out the link domains on a regular basis. i.e. IP 123.12.12.123 mails with domain1.com then that same ip would switch to mailing from domain2.com later in the day or after a few hours maybe or after 100k emails go out etc.... as far as I know this isnt possible in VOLO BUT.... Chris might have some insight into this and be able to help out with an explanation. Thank you for the thorough explanations.
Yes, the above is possible with Volo, but I have not personally found this practice to be particularly effective in the quality Email/IP reputation game.
Totally agree Chris. Consistency in your IPs and Domains is a major key to reputation and LONG TERM success in email regardless of the platform you use.
Thank you Chris, could you please send a PM to Bluehairdave and myself with elaboration on how one would configure that. Thanks again.
